Created for Dr Peter Kyle, Labour MP for Hove and Portslade, The Argument politics website is an area for public party dialogue, debate and ideas — to help guide where the Labour can go next. The Argument will help hone policy that works in real politics and engages people.
Each month a theme is chosen and a series of essays, or ‘arguments’, are published by a selection of writers. Then other writers are invited to offer ‘counter arguments’ as a response.
We wanted to engage the reader of The Argument with a bold design. The home page has a large multi-panel layout with strong headlines and striking imagery for each story. Site editors can interlink arguments and counter arguments to keep the narrative themes together.
The WordPress back end system is easy for editors to update and moderate comments — something that has proven useful as the site receives a lot of traffic and input from its readership. We provided minimal training on updating the site and the editorial team has been successfully maintaining it ever since.
We also created a masthead logo. The wordmark has an authoritative typography that is broken by a red slash. This references the Labour party and the opposing views around any particular argument.
